Erlebnispark Geier

Bad Waltersdorf · Steiermark · from age 4

Climbing park in the eastern Styrian spa region, a good half-day trip alongside a visit to the thermal baths.

What makes Erlebnispark Geier special

36 courses in five levels of difficulty – a lot even for a large forest rope park. The site in Bad Waltersdorf describes itself as Europe's largest forest rope garden and has been running for around 20 years.

For families the fine price grading is interesting, because it really reflects age instead of merely splitting child from adult: 4 to 5 years pay 10 €, 6 to 13 pay 20 €, 14 to 15 pay 25 €, from 16 it is 30 €. Entry from age four is one of the lowest in Styria.

One feature is rare elsewhere: night climbing, every Tuesday from 4 pm. Climbing through the forest by head torch is something entirely different from daylight – orientation falls away, and the familiar exercise suddenly becomes exciting again.

The season is long but staggered: from 1 May to 12 July weekends only, from 13 July to 13 September Thursday to Sunday, then until 25 October weekends again. Groups of 20 or more can also come on weekdays.
