What makes the Gänsehäufel high ropes course special
The site sits in the middle of the Gänsehäufel baths on the Alte Donau – and that is the whole point: you climb and swim on the same day without changing grounds. For a Viennese summer day with children that is hard to beat.
The figures are considerable: 79 platforms at up to eight metres, 10 courses over more than 1,500 metres and 26 flying fox installations. The many zip lines are the signature – you change trees more often flying than climbing.
Eight metres maximum height sounds modest against the 20 metres on the Kahlenberg. For children that is rather an advantage: the exercises are the same, the nerve required is less.
Entry is from 110 cm body height. Payment follows age: 20 € up to the tenth birthday, 26 € up to the sixteenth, 32 € above. Cash only – worth knowing before setting off.
The site opened in May 2007 as Vienna's first large high ropes course. The operator also runs an outdoor escape room; the giant swing costs 17 € extra.
