What makes Kletterwald Chemnitz special

Booking is by telephone only. The operator writes it on every page: no email, no SMS, no WhatsApp, no Facebook. The reason is practical – it is the only way to keep track of how many people are booked for which time. If you are going on the spur of the moment, call first.

Twelve courses, which makes this one of the larger sites in Saxony. How many are open shows in the price list: primary classes climb courses 1 to 4, middle school 1 to 8, and from year 8 all twelve.

The price grading is among the finest in this directory – five tiers for individual tickets plus three for school classes. Apprentices and students up to 25 have a tier of their own.

Family and group discounts cannot be combined. Both are worth 2 € per person; the operator states explicitly that only one applies and that groups must pay as a single sum.

Spectators enter the grounds free.

A personal instructor costs 30 € per hour and must be booked in advance.

Opening hours appear as a colour calendar on the website, with three states: open from 10 am, open from 1 pm, or closed except for booked groups. For the current day there is also a traffic light at the top right of the page. The site closes in heavy rain, storms, hail and thunderstorms.

The setting at the Rabenstein reservoir is reachable by bus: regional line 253 stops at the reservoir itself, otherwise it is 2.7 kilometres from the Rabenstein Center.
