What makes Wonderwood Lago Maggiore special
The park lies at about 1,000 metres on Monte Carza above Cannero Riviera, looking down on the upper Lago Maggiore. It belongs to the Wonderwood chain, which also runs parks on Lake Como and near Vicenza. Entry to the grounds is free; you pay for individual attractions or packages.
The courses are graded by height, not age: children from age 3 up to 109 cm have three courses of their own with wobbly bridges, rope sections and a mini zipline, while parents walk alongside on the ground holding their hand. From 110 to 125 cm three courses are open, but only with a companion taller than 140 cm; from 125 cm children may climb alone. From 140 cm the red course at ten metres and the "WonderFly" are added – a 65-metre zipline with a lake view.
Around the climbing there is a 35-metre rope suspension bridge, electric mini Land Rovers and mini excavators, a paddling pool, a gem-hunting game, a small farm with goats and hens, a dog area, a bar and a restaurant. Close by, a Gruffalo trail and a walk to the "Big Bench" start.
Getting there is part of the outing: it is 18 minutes from Cannero Riviera on a narrow mountain road. In summer a mountain bus runs on Sundays from Cannobio and Cannero to the Monte Carza stop; on weekdays the bus ends in Trarego, a 45-minute walk below the park. It opens on weekends, public holidays and during school holidays until the end of November.
