What makes Hochseilgarten Jugendherberge Rurberg special
The site belongs to the Simmerath-Rurberg youth hostel for nature and adventure sport, in the middle of the Nordeifel nature park and right on the Rursee reservoir. The Eifel National Park starts at the door.
Eighteen metres is unusually high for a hostel site – with a giant rope ladder and a zip line as the high points. The course has around 20 stations.
The climbing tower beside it is eight metres high and carries six routes of differing difficulty. Together the two make a day in which every group finds its own measure.
There is no individual admission. The ropes course is one adventure module in the house's packages, for instance the weekend package with two nights and full board. Arrival is only possible on Fridays.
Weekends all year, led by trained instructors. Before going up come knots, grip technique, the safety check and a warm-up.
On accessibility the hostel is honest: it writes itself that the trip is generally not suitable for people with restricted mobility, but asks for a conversation rather than refusing outright.
The municipality of Simmerath levies a 5 % overnight charge on the accommodation revenue – worth including in the sums.
