What makes Kletterwald Staufen special
Staufen im Breisgau lies at the foot of the Black Forest, south of Freiburg, known for its wine and the Faust legend. The climbing park adds to a day there what children miss while the adults walk the vineyards.
The categories are called S, M and L — and they refer to height, not age. S from 120 cm for the children's course, M from 130 cm for under-elevens with an adult, L from 130 cm and eleven years for all courses. The split is unusually clear: you know before setting off who is allowed where, without weighing age against height.
The safety briefing takes about 30 minutes and is part of the three hours of climbing time. That is communicated honestly — at some sites you only learn on arrival that the briefing eats into your time.
For groups there are team events from 20 people and a treasure hunt as a separate programme. School classes pay 23 € per person, groups from 20 get 2 € off.
Off season the park opens at 1 pm, in high season at noon. A reservation is recommended, and the consent form is best filled in beforehand.
