Kletterwald Drei Gleichen
Drei Gleichen · Thüringen · from age 6
Eight courses up to ten metres high below the three castles near Gotha, with a 100-metre flying fox and a base jump. Three hours of climbing time, from age six.
What makes Kletterwald Drei Gleichen special
Eight courses in three grades, split into three easy, three medium and two hard routes. The operator gives a duration for each grade – ten to 15 minutes for the easy ones, 15 to 20 for the medium, 15 to 25 for the hard. With three hours of climbing time that is enough for the whole park.
The flying fox runs 100 metres, and there is a base jump as well. Both belong to the two hard courses and are therefore open only from age twelve and thirteen respectively.
Ten metres is the greatest height. That is moderate by comparison – the tallest sites in this directory reach 25 to 30 metres. If you want a place where height is not the first thing on your mind, this is it.
The park is young. It has been running for three years and reports some 20,000 visitors – a newcomer next to sites operating since the 2000s.
The setting explains the name. The three castles Mühlburg, Wachsenburg and Burg Gleichen stand within sight; the course sits at Gut Ringhofen next to a campsite and a riding stable. Parking is free, it is a two-minute walk from the car park, and there is a bus connection to Gotha. The operator describes access to the grounds as barrier-free; what that means for the courses themselves is not stated – if you are coming with a disability, call ahead.
The family package is the cheapest way in. Two adults and two children pay 78 € together. Individual tickets run between 18.50 € and 24.50 €; the operator does not say which tier applies to whom, so we list only the range.
