What makes WaldAbenteuer Kastellaun special

Access depends solely on reach height, to the centimetre for each course: 1.70 m, 1.75 m, 1.94 m. It is measured standing flat-footed with the arm stretched upwards to the fingertips. From six you may climb anything your reach is sufficient for.

That is more consistent than the usual age brackets. A tall ten-year-old gets further here than a short fourteen-year-old — which is correct in substance, because the elements are built for reach, not for years of birth.

Six courses rise from platforms up to 1.20 m via 1.70 m and 4.60 m to 6.70 m and 8.20 m. An additional, very easy course with three elements serves for the briefing.

The highest course is physically easier than the one before it, but mentally harder — as the operator himself describes it. Above eight metres, nerve counts for more than strength.

There is a guest house on the grounds with rooms, group rooms and a kitchen. For school trips and club weekends that is an argument most forest ropes parks cannot offer.

During the Rhineland-Palatinate holidays it also opens Thursdays and Fridays. The last briefing starts at 4 pm, and the full three hours of climbing time still apply.
